Sunday Afternoon Daydream #1: Lilacs

So first off, NEW LOOK! I have been reading like crazy lists and lists of do and do not's for blogging and have been trying to get this puppy all set up properly before I really start. I'm one of those people I have to have everything look perfect before I can start or it bugs the daylights out of me! So, anyways, now that I have things looking the way that I want them I feel like I can start posting, thus I give you my first weekly series:

Sunday Afternoon Daydreams!  Ta da!

Ok so what this is, is basically an excuse to show off the cool things on Pinterest that I have found throughout the week. So what's with the name you might ask? Well, the first part is easy, I'll be posting (hopefully) every Sunday afternoon some time between church and choir in the evening, aka the part of the day that most people usually take naps. Myself however, well... lets just say that nap taking isn't the greatest idea in the world for me as I usually end up pretty grumpy after I wake up from one. So that being said I thought I would do something (semi) productive with my time while the house is all quiet, and lets be honest, what do we spend the most time doing on the wonderful addiction that is Pinterest? That's right...daydream. So there you have it, the name and the reason behind it, now to the fun part...the pictures.

The subject of this first series is Lilacs! There is something just so airy and beautiful about this flower. It smells like heaven, looks beautiful in arrangements, and is a great inspiration for color. That and well, it's just so darn pretty to look at!

I have tried to chase down all the original sources of these photos, and you should be able to click on each and find your way to them. Let me know if any of the links don't work.

Lilac, or Syringa is a flowering bush with over 20 different species to it's name, and is actually part of the olive family (huh, learn something new every day) Most have heart-shaped leaves and long clusters of blooms that flower in the spring. Though they are mostly thought of as being purplish in color they can range in colors from pure white to deep burgundy. Interestingly enough in the language of flowers lilac is synonymous with love, I thought it was just the rose.
Here is an example of the many different varieties of color in which this beautiful flower blooms

Now I wish that lilacs had been in bloom in for my wedding because they are just so beautiful, as can been seen here with this photo from the Knot.com

One of the most obvious ways to use and enjoy lilacs is to display them in beautiful or simple containers around the house, bringing life and beauty to any room.

One word of caution to those with sensitive pallets, the lilac, though wonderful, is very strong in its sweet perfume and can be a bit overwhelming if contained in a small room. If decorating with them is still just a must I would recomend some silk recreations. Now they won't quite be the same but I have seen some very beautiful silk versions at places like Hobby Lobby and Joanns that might be more practical for displays like the ones below.
